Significance of Anant Chaturdashi
Anant Chaturdashi is generally observed 10 days after the Ganesh Chaturthi. In Maharashtra, on this day, devotees bid farewell to Ganpati Bappa with the ritual famously known as Ganesh Visarjan.
Anant Chaturdashi is not only observed by Hindus, but by Jains as well. It is believed on this day, Lord Vasupujya, the 12th Tirthankara of Jains attained nirvana. The Digambar jains observe the last day of Paryushana Parva on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi. Digambar Jains observe strict fast on this day. The next day of Anant Chaturdashi, Jains observe "Kshamavani", the day to ask for forgiveness.
Anant Chaturdashi Puja Vidhi
Anant Chaturdashi is generally observed during noon time. Following are the rituals that are generally followed by the devotees -
- Take a bath and weal clean white or yellow clothes
- Setup the puja altar. Place the idols or photos of Lord Vishnu
- Establish a Kalash
- Prepare a thread with 14 knots. Dip it in vermillion, turmeric and saffron. Place it in front of Lord Vishnu
- Worship the Lord Vishnu with Shadoshopchar method and chant the mantra
