Navratri is observed four times every year - Magha Gupt Navratri, Ashadha Gupt Navratri, Chaitra Navratri and Shardiya Navratri. During the Navratri days, devotees observe various activities and fasts to offer their prayers to Goddess Durga. Out of all the navratris observed during a year, two Navratris are majorly observed -

• Shardiya Navratri: Observed in the Ashwin month (September/October) just before the Dusshera (Vijayadashmi)
• Chaitra Navratri: Observed in the month of Chaitra (March/April) which marks the starts of Hindu New Year and ends with Ram Navami.

The other two Navratris are lesser known and majorly observed by Tantrics, spiritual seekers and devotees of Goddess Durga.

Ashadha Gupt Navratri is also referred as "Ashadha Navratri" or simply "Gupt Navratri", Shakambri Navratri or Shakamabri Utsav, Varahi Navratri, Gayatri Navratri, Bhadrakali Navrati and "Guhya Navratri".

Ashadha Gupt Navratri is celebrated in the month of Ashadha (June-July) during the Shukla Paksha.

What is Ashadha Gupt Navratri?

Navratri is a period of nine days dedicated to worship Goddess Durga. Each day is dedicated to a specific form of Maa Durga, Navratri observed in the Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month is known as Ashadha Gupt Navratri. Observing Navratri during this perios is considered beneficial for tantra sadhana and powerful blessings from Maa Durga. Since the Tantriks perform the Navratri rituals in secrecy, this navratri is also known as Gupt Navratri.

There is a common myth that only Tantriks observe this Navratri but that is not true. Anyone having faith in Maa Durga can observe the Ashadha Navratri and seek blessings from her.

Significance of Ashadha Gupt Navratri

The nine days and nights of Ashadha Gupt Navratri are considered highly powerful for Tantras and wish fulfilments. Observing Gupt Navratri invokes powers of Goddess Durga, including the Dasa Mahavidyas and Saptamatrikas, where Goddess Varahi Devi plays a central role. As a guardian deity, Varahi is often revered for protection from enemies, victory in legal disputes, healing from diseases, and spiritual uplift.

Ashadha Gupt Navratri Puja Vidhi

• Wake up early and take purifying bath
• Clean the house and wear clean clothes
• Setup the altar (pooja table) with idols of Goddess Durga
• Light a desi ghee diya and adorn the Goddess Durga idol with shringar (bindi, mehendi, bangles, sindoor etc.)
• Perform Ghatsthapana by placing an earthen pot (ghada or matka)
• Since this is a Gupt Navratri, the prayers, Mantras, and fast must not be flaunted or discussed openly with others to preserve their spiritual energy.
• Offer sweets, flowers and fruits to Goddess Durga
• Pray to Goddess Varahi and chant Varahi Mantras
• Read Durga Saptashati
• Observe the Navratri fast like any other navratri
• Complete the puja rituals by reciting Durga Aarti and Durga Chalisa
