Significance of Batuk Bhairav Jayanti

On Dashami, Shukla Paksha in Jyeshtha Month, Lord Shiva tok birth as Lord Batuk Bhairav to kill the fiery demon Apad.

Apad had a boon (vardaan) that no Devta or Human or Goddess can defeat him. Only 5 year old child can defeat him. When his atrocities crossed all the limits, Lord Shiva incarnated as Batuk Bhairav, a 5 year old child to kill the demon.

Batuk Bhairav is the Purna Avatar of Lord Shiva and is known to respond to the prayers more quickly. Unlike Kaal Bhairav, devotees may not need to follow strict rituals and can worship him at their homes as well. Batuk Bhairav Jayanti is majorly celebrated by Tantriks and Aghoris.

  • Wake up early and take purifying bath. Purify the home with Ganga Jal before starting the puja.
  • Altar setup: Setup an table with the idols of Lord Shiva
  • Offer flowers and light a diya with mustard oil (Sarso ka Tel)
  • Offer kheer, panchamrit and laddu as bhog to Lord Batuk
  • Feed mustard oil roti and halwa to a black dog. Black dog serves as Lord Batuk's sacred vehicle
  • Chant the mantra Om Batuk Bhairavaya Namah 108 times using a Rudraksha Mala. Devotees also read other Bhairav Stotras and Lord Shiva prayers.
