Bhauma Pradosh Vrat Katha

A long time ago, in a small village, there lived an elderly woman with her only son. She had no great wealth, no servants, and no worldly comforts. Her greatest treasure was her devotion to Lord Hanuman and the love she had for her son.

Every Tuesday, she observed her vrat with complete sincerity. From sunrise itself, she remained absorbed in prayers and spent the day remembering the Lord. Her only wish was that her son should remain healthy, safe, and blessed throughout his life.

The old woman followed her religious discipline very strictly. On Tuesdays, she would not perform certain household activities and devoted the day entirely to worship. Such was her faith that she never allowed anything to interfere with her vrat.

Seeing her unwavering devotion, Lord Hanuman decided to test the depth of her faith.

One Tuesday, which coincided with Pradosh, Lord Hanuman arrived at her house disguised as a wandering saint. Standing outside her door, he called out for alms and requested food.

The old woman immediately came out, bowed respectfully, and welcomed the saint. She requested him to come inside and assured him that she would prepare a meal for him.

The saint looked at her and said, “Before preparing the food, first plaster this place with cow dung.”

Hearing this, the old woman folded her hands and replied respectfully, “Maharaj, today is Tuesday, and I have taken a vow not to perform such work on this day. If there is any other service I can offer, I will gladly do so.”

The saint was pleased by her commitment but decided to test her even further.

He said, “If you truly wish to serve me, then call your son. Lay him on the ground and light a fire upon his back so that my food may be cooked.”

For a moment, the old woman's heart trembled. She could not understand why such a request had been made. On one side was her beloved son, and on the other was the promise she had made to serve a guest who had arrived at her door.

After gathering her courage, she placed her trust in the Lord and obeyed the saint's words.

When the meal was ready, she returned and humbly informed the saint that his food had been prepared.

The saint then said, “Call your son. Let him sit with us and share this meal.”

The old woman was astonished.

With tears in her eyes, she said, “Maharaj, how can my son come here? The meal has been prepared upon the fire that was lit on his back.”

The saint smiled and said once again, “Call him.”

Trusting the saint completely, she called out to her son.

To her amazement, her son came running towards her exactly as before—healthy, unharmed, and smiling.

The old woman could hardly believe her eyes. Moments earlier, she had accepted the greatest sacrifice for the sake of her faith, and now her son stood before her safe and well.

Realising that the saint was no ordinary visitor, she fell at his feet and prayed, “Prabhu, please reveal your true form.”

At that very moment, the saint disappeared, and Lord Hanuman manifested in his divine form.

The old woman was overwhelmed with devotion. With folded hands and tears of gratitude flowing from her eyes, she bowed before the Lord.

Lord Hanuman said, “Mother, your faith has pleased me greatly. You remained firm in your devotion even during the most difficult test. Ask for any boon you desire.”

The old woman asked for nothing except the well-being and protection of her son.

Pleased with her selfless prayer, Lord Hanuman blessed both the mother and her son with happiness, prosperity, and freedom from suffering.

It is believed that those who observe Bhauma Pradosh Vrat with devotion and listen to this sacred Katha receive the blessings of Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman. Their difficulties are gradually removed, and peace and prosperity enter their lives.
