Shravan Purnima Vrat Katha

Long ago, there lived a wealthy and charitable merchant. He was known for his generosity and religious nature. Every Shravan Purnima, he worshipped Lord Vishnu, listened to the Satyanarayan Katha, offered Tulsi leaves to the Lord, and performed acts of charity.

The merchant had two daughters.

The elder daughter was deeply devoted to Lord Vishnu. She observed the Shravan Purnima Vrat with sincerity, listened to the entire katha, followed all the religious observances, and performed her duties with dedication.

The younger daughter also kept the vrat, but she never completed it properly. She would often leave before the katha was finished and was more interested in receiving the blessings than following the vrat with full faith and discipline.

As the years passed, both daughters got married and started their own families.

The elder daughter continued her devotion after marriage. Every Purnima, she worshipped Lord Vishnu, listened to the complete Satyanarayan Katha, followed the vrat rules, and encouraged her family to do the same. Gradually, her household prospered. Happiness, peace, and abundance became a permanent part of her life.

The younger daughter, however, did not change her habits. Even after marriage, she continued observing the vrat carelessly. She neither completed the katha nor followed the prescribed rules sincerely. As a result, her life remained troubled, and she did not experience the happiness she desired.

After some time, both sisters were blessed with sons.

The elder daughter's son grew up healthy and strong. But whenever the younger daughter gave birth to a child, the child survived only for a short time. This sorrow repeated itself more than once, leaving her heartbroken.

One day, after losing another child, the younger daughter was overwhelmed with grief.

Around the same time, the elder sister came to visit her. Seeing her younger sister's suffering, she tried to understand the reason behind her repeated misfortunes.

As they spoke, the elder sister realized that although her younger sister observed the vrat, she never completed it properly. She would leave the katha unfinished, ignore important observances, and perform the worship only partially.

The elder sister lovingly explained that Lord Vishnu is pleased by sincere devotion, discipline, and complete observance of the vrat. Merely expecting blessings without completing the worship does not bring the full fruits of devotion.

The younger sister accepted her mistake.

From that day onward, whenever Shravan Purnima arrived, she observed the vrat with complete faith. She listened to the entire Satyanarayan Katha, followed the prescribed rules, offered Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu, and performed the worship with a sincere heart.

Gradually, her difficulties began to fade. Lord Vishnu's grace blessed her family with happiness and stability. Her home, once filled with sorrow, became a place of peace and prosperity.

The story teaches that faith alone is not enough; devotion must be accompanied by sincerity, discipline, and complete observance of religious duties. Those who worship Lord Vishnu with a pure heart and listen to the Shravan Purnima Vrat Katha with devotion receive His blessings and find happiness in life.
