Sacred Friday Pradosh vrat dedicated to Lord Shiva.
A long time ago, three close friends lived in a beautiful city. One was a prince, the second was the son of a Brahmin, and the third was the son of a wealthy merchant. The three spent most of their time together and shared everything with one another like brothers.
The prince and the Brahmin boy were already married and often spoke happily about their wives and family life. The merchant’s son was also married, but after the wedding, his wife was still staying at her parents’ home because her formal farewell ceremony had not yet taken place.
One day, the three friends were sitting together and talking casually. During the conversation, the Brahmin’s son began praising women and family life. Smiling, he said, “A home feels complete only because of a woman. She brings happiness, warmth, and peace into the family.”
Hearing this made the merchant’s son restless. He suddenly felt that he could not stay away from his wife any longer. Without thinking much, he stood up and declared, “I will go today itself and bring my wife home.”
When he shared his decision with his parents, they became worried. They tried to explain patiently, “Son, this is not the right time. Shukra Dev is currently in the period of Shukra Asta. During this time, bringing a daughter or daughter-in-law from her maternal home is considered inauspicious. Wait for a few more days.”
But the young man was stubborn. Love and excitement had clouded his judgment. No matter how much his parents tried to stop him, he refused to listen.
Finally, he left for his in-laws’ house.
When he reached there, his in-laws also advised him not to take his wife home during such a time. They folded their hands and requested him to wait for the proper muhurat, but the merchant’s son did not change his mind. Seeing his insistence, the girl’s father helplessly agreed and sent his daughter with him.
The husband and wife happily started their journey back home in a bullock cart. But the moment they left the town, strange troubles began to surround them.
Suddenly, one wheel of the bullock cart came off, and one of the bulls got badly injured. The cart overturned, and both husband and wife were hurt badly. Somehow they gathered themselves and continued the journey on foot.
But their difficulties were still not over.
After travelling some distance, a group of robbers stopped them on the lonely road. The robbers snatched away all their money, jewellery, and valuables. Within moments, the couple lost everything they had.
Tired, injured, and heartbroken, they somehow managed to return home.
The merchant’s parents were shocked to see their condition. Before the family could recover from this sorrow, another disaster struck the house. One day, the merchant’s son was bitten by a poisonous snake.
His condition became serious very quickly. The frightened family immediately called a physician. After examining him carefully, the physician spoke in a heavy voice, “His condition is critical. He may not survive beyond three days.”
Hearing this, the entire family broke down in tears.
When the Brahmin friend heard about all these events, he rushed to the merchant’s house. After listening carefully, he understood the reason behind these sufferings. He said, “All these troubles began because the traditional rules were ignored. Your son brought his wife home during Shukra Asta. This is why one problem after another entered the house.”
He then advised the family, “If you truly want your son to recover, send the couple back to the girl’s parental home immediately. Along with this, observe the sacred Shukra Pradosh Vrat with full devotion to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Their blessings alone can remove these troubles.”
The merchant trusted the Brahmin boy’s words.
Without wasting any time, he sent his son and daughter-in-law back to her parents’ home. At the same time, the entire family observed the Shukra Pradosh Vrat with complete faith and devotion. They prayed sincerely before Lord Shiva and asked for forgiveness.
It is said that as soon as the young man reached his in-laws’ house, his health slowly began to improve. Day by day, he recovered completely. With the blessings of Lord Shiva, all the suffering and troubles of the family finally came to an end.
From that day onward, the family continued to observe Shukra Pradosh Vrat with great devotion.
It is believed that whoever listens to or reads this sacred Shukra Pradosh Vrat Katha with a pure heart receives the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. All obstacles are removed from life, negativity goes away, and the devotee is blessed with peace, prosperity, and happiness.
