Hariyali Teej is celebrated in the monsoon season and is also referred to as "Sawan Teej" or "Choti Teej". This day celebrates the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Goddess Parvati performed intense prayers (tapsaya) to marry Shiva. It is believed that on this day, her prayers fulfilled her wished and the couple reunited for the marriage.

In Rajasthan, Ghewar is prepared on the day of Hariyali Teej. Ghewar is the signature Teej sweet in Rajasthan and is exchanged as a gift during the festival. It is a round shaped sweet made from ghee, maida (refined wheat flour), and sugar syrup.
